This article provides a critical evaluation of the 1971 editio princeps of two anonymous Jesuit dramas, the Mauritius and the Belisarius, which were written in Poznań (Posen) around 1600 CE. A new collation of the codex unicus Uppsala R 380, which is riddled with flaws, yields numerous new readings. But also the more precise consideration of metre, syntax, and thought logic allows many emendations to both works, which are indebted to Seneca’s dramas both conceptually and in linguistic detail.
